The 3rd Mathematics and its Connections to the Arts and Sciences (MACAS3) Symposium

MACAS3

The Third International Symposium of Mathematics and its Connections to the Arts and Sciences

21st - 23rd of May, 2009

Moncton, New Brunswick Canada

The Symposium will pursue the initiatives that arose from the collaborative work of the Topic Study Group 21 participants of the ICME-10 Congress. The first two Symposiums held by Astrid Beckmann in 2005 in Schwäbisch Gmünd (Germany) and in 2007 held by Claus Michelsen in Odense (Denmark) brought together researchers interested in connections between mathematics, the arts and sciences. These two events allowed participants engaged in interdisciplinary work to start working together on the collaborative research agenda. While the first contacts have been established between researchers and a shared vision of the benefits that can bring unifying the arts, the sciences and mathematics has been discussed, there is still a need of exchanging on research data and constructing of common conceptual frameworks under which researchers can pursue and consolidate their collaborative work.

We invite all researchers interested in contributing to the work of the Symposium to write a short proposal (2-3) pages about their interests in the topic which is open to a large variety of interdisciplinary connections. Reports on studies arising from MACAS1 and MACAS2 collaborations are also welcome.

All proposals (including a résumé) must be sent to one of the organizers by
e-mail before January, 15th. The selected participants will be asked to write a full paper that will be presented at the Symposium.
